Abstract

This article aims to present the main features of the new information civilization, as exposed by Shoshana Zuboff in her book "The Age of Surveillance Capitalism: The Fight for a Human Future at the New Frontier of Power", emphasizing some background issues and the philosophical dimension of her reflections. The focus is directed toward the questions of power and freedom, which are traditionally posed in the realm of political philosophy and ethics. In this sense, we will look further into Zuboff's analyses of the emerging instrumentarian power and radical behaviorism. An emphasis will be given to the new threats to democracy and the risks to human freedom detected by Zuboff.
